Hello everyone.

This blog is intended to give news and information on anything concerning North Walsham Dance - our belly dancing classes, workshops, haflas and social get-togethers.

If you’ve lost something (veils, belts, coats - all sorts of things turn up after class sometimes!) or found an item, we can advertise the fact here. Perhaps you have a suggestion? Look here regularly for any announcements concerning belly dancing in North Norfolk!

It was a really great weekend with Maria D’Silva and her partner Joe.  In total over the weekend they did four workshops, and Lorraine Theobald started the ball rolling with a beginners workshop too.

Maria started with “gorgeous arms” which I didn’t personally attend but I wish I could have because she does beautiful arm and hand work.  I went to the Oriental Technique workshop which entailed a lot of big, sweeping movements like arabesques.  Again, I didn’t know there were so many ways to do an arabesque!  On Sunday the Saiidi stick workshop was stunning and also shimmies.

The Hafla was a huge success, probably our best yet.  A massive variety of performance styles, great bellydance costume bazaar provided by Maria and Joe, and beautiful solos and a helpful warmup from Maria.  The catering was also excellent, and what a clever idea to give a choice of nibbles and/or hot supper.

The standard of performances from both our professional teacher and the amateurs from far and wide was generally excellent.  Left on a high that took a while to come down from!

News just in. .. Jane Barrett and Dianne Davies have been invited to do an interview on BBC Radio Norfolk to talk about Egyptian Dance and what we do in North Norfolk!

Hopefully this will help to raise the profile of North Walsham Dance and northnorfolkbellydance.co.uk even further.  It should sound quite amusing as we couldn’t have found two more different voices to be heard together on the radio!

We have been asked to bring coin belts etc and to demonstrate a little and show the host a few moves.  Rather like the old days when you used to hear tap dancing on the radio!   This is quite an exciting development for North Walsham Dance and we hope you will all be listening in:
